“I’m convinced that — maybe I’m wrong — but, in the U.S. you actually have a hard time finding certain communities. They tend to build up around the school. In many areas they tend to build up around the local church. And they tend to build up around work. But it’s often hard to find communities of people interested in the same thing. And the Internet has done that and open source has really done that for a lot of technical people, where you end up knowing all these people that are interested in what you’re interested in and you have common interests. It’s really what everybody wants. That’s how people are really wired and that’s something very fundamental. And so it gives you something on a technical level, but equally importantly it actually works from a social standpoint. Which is why I think it’s so maintainable.”
