NEWS ANALYSIS: Oracles 7.4 billion Sun acquisition will put to end one of Silicon Valleys most successful high-tech companies, ever, and the inspiration for so many enterprise start-ups that followed in the 1990s and 2000s. But its a sadder day most of all for open source, which community loses one of its most supportive commercial software supporters.
– Oracle is killing Sun. The two companies announced the $7.4 billion deal this morning (April 20). For the rest of tech, its a sad day. Dress in black and mourn. One of Silicon Valleys finest is gone. If the Valley were a tree, Sun would be one of its major roots…
