Jono Bacon, one of the Jokosher developers and Ubuntu’s community manager, has announced the third public release of Jokosher, a multi-track audio studio that aims to make audio editing easy.

Bacon, who is also the creative mind behind the UK-based LugRadio podcast, began working on this application because he could not find a simple audio editor for Linux. The first iteration was released to the public last July at LugRadio Live 2006.

Jokosher 0.9 includes multi-track volume mixing, intuitive editing tools for splitting, trimming, and moving audio, and import/export for Ogg Vorbis, MP3, FLAC, and other formats supported by GStreamer.

The Jokosher download page notes that “most of the requirements for Jokosher 0.9 are in distributions, a few remaining dependencies are not present, but Jokosher is now much easier to install than it used to be.”

Installing Jokosher on Ubuntu is relatively easy, with just the Jokosher package and an updated Gnonlin package for Ubuntu Feisty. Other distros will require GStreamer 0.10.12, Gnonlin 0.10.8, and a number of GStreamer plugins.
