Segment Two- LPI

We are joined tonight by Evan Leibovitch of the Linux Professional Institute, and we will be discussing
the ongoing cerification efforts of LPI. LPI was formally incorporated as a Canadian non-profit and is headquartered near Toronto. LPI brings together an active and committed community with the companies and professionals who can fund and carry out LPI’s initiatives. LPI is recognized worldwide as the premier organization advocating and assisting in the professional use of Linux, open source, and free software.

LPI is working on a number of initiatives to accomplish its advocacy goals, but is currently best known for its Linux skills certification exams. LPI’s industry standard certifications are delivered in thousands of locations worldwide, in multiple languages and with the support of employers, vendors, and trainers. It has delivered over 50,000 Level One and Level Two certification exams globally since the program’s inception. ¨LPI is an important resource to the open source sector and its leadership in the development of high quality linux certification is celebrated by the community

Evan Leibovitch was one of the co-founders of LPI. Before taking the role as LPI President, he was a Vice President at Starnix Inc., a Linux-centric VAR located near Toronto. He registered his first Internet domain in 1986, has been involved with Unix even longer, and first started using Linux in 1996. He was a co-founder of the Canadian Linux Users’ Exchange and has written on Linux issues for a number of publications. Evan has a degree in Philosophy from York University and a graduate degree in Journalism from Ryerson Polytechnic University.

Very recently LPI, together with its U.S. Affiliate, the Open Source Software Institute (OSSI) announced the appointment of Ted Cook as Director of US Business Development.¨ The US represents the world´s single largest IT market and represents a significant opportunity for the open source sector in general. But, is lagging in overall adoption to the rest of the world. Ted is already very well known to the open source sector in the US and will bring a strong background in business development and progressive marketing to the LPI organization to help to establish the LPI brand to US based IT firms.
