No one is putting a precise number on the jobs that will be created at RTP as a result of an Oct. 15 announcement by IBM Chief Executive Officer Sam Palmisano. He said then that the new jobs will come “in key skill areas, including high-value services, middleware technologies, Linux and open standards-based hardware and software.”
IBM’s Triangle operation employs 13,500 people and remains the company’s largest single outpost. RTP houses many of the divisions, or parts of them, identified by Palmisano as growth areas.
