that it will begin marketing InterIMR, its new server appliance,
designed to provide employers with a secure, archivable instant
messaging alternative to expensive software based solutions. The
InterIMR appliance, which has been in beta testing at selected companies
in the Northeast and Midwest since June, will make its public debut at
the Linux World Expo in San Francisco next week.
Instant messaging, or IM, is being used by employees at most companies.
However, because IM is an insecure messaging medium, employers and
regulators have become increasingly concerned about IM’s use in the
corporate setting. These issues have been underscored by the recent
Sarbanes-Oxley laws applicable to financial institutions, and HIPAA
legislation, applying to healthcare firms.
“InterIMR was designed to enable companies to manage IM usage in the
enterprise quickly, affordably, and in compliance with applicable
regulations,” says Christopher Penner, Deviant’s President & CEO.
“InterIMR installs on any network in under 20 minutes, offers a
portfolio of productivity and security features and costs far less than
competing products,” added Penner.
Two InterIMR models are being offered. The entry level InterIMR
Professional is the ideal IM solution for small businesses and supports
up to 300 IM users. The rack mountable InterIMR Enterprise is geared
towards larger companies and supports 1000 users, while boasting an
array of fault tolerant features. Both units provide 512 bit message
encryption, security akin to that of online banks. Messages and
presence can be archived and searched either manually or through the use
of configurable filters. Built in reporting features provide
administrators with valuable information about company-wide IM usage in
either text or graphic formats.
“We are currently seeking distribution arrangements with companies
servicing the corporate sector in the US and in international markets,”
says Penner. “Customers are demanding more for less, and we can give
that to them,” Penner explains, citing a rapid return on investment
through administrative savings and an absence of traditional client
license fees.
