ConnMan Optimizes Embedded Internet Connection Management

In June 2009 Intel and Nokia announced a partnership to collaboratively optimize Moblin and Nokia’s Maemo Linux OS for Atom-based netbooks, nettops, MIDs, automotive infotainment systems and cell phones.  The companies will cooperatively address a number of open source projects including ConnMan, a daemon that manages Internet connections within Linux embedded devices.

“The development of ConnMan started two years ago when we were looking for an alternative connection manager for Moblin,” said Marcel Holtmann who maintains open source projects including BlueZ, OpenOBEX, ConnMan and oFono at Intel’s Open Source Technology Center.  “At that point none of the other open source connection managers were easy to extend with new technologies…”
