Crytek unveiled its next-generation video game development engine, CryEngine, and it supports virtual reality headsets. The Frankfurt, Germany-based company made the announcement at an event at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco. VR is expected to become a $30 billion industry by 2020, according to tech adviser Digi-Capital.
“Game engines that allow for lifelike rendering in real time will be at the forefront of this revolution,†said Frank Vitz, the creative director at Crytek.
The engine is uses a “pay what you want†basis for its business model, Vitz said. The company is also investing heavily in tools for content creation for VR.
