microPledge is a novel kind of service that could be what we all need to fund our hypergalactic wiza-ma-jig. Collaborating to pay for stuff is an idea with applications left, right, and centre. It was previously mentioned in a post about COfundOS. But microPledge has been around a little longer and offers more advanced progress payments and funding security. The key to it is just one little word: a pledge.
