Now that the SourceForge.net community has selected the nominees, you can vote for the projects you think represent “the cream of the crop on SourceForge.net.”
Don’t procrastinate; voting ends at 11:59 p.m. PDT on July 20. The second annual SourceForge.net Community Choice Awards will be celebrated at the 2007 O’Reilly Open Source Convention (OSCON) in Portland, Ore., July 23-27. Select your favorite in each of 10 different categories, plus an “all-over best project.” The categories are:
- Best Tool or Utility for Developers
- Best Project for the Enterprise
- Best Project for Gamers
- Best Project for Multimedia
- Best Project for Communications
- Best New Project
- Best User Support
- Best Technical Design
- Most Collaborative Project
- Best Tool or Utility for SysAdmins
This year’s Best Project nominees are:
- 7-Zip (file archiver)
- eyeOS (open source Web operating system)
- FileZilla (Windows FTP and SFTP client and FTP server)
- Firebird (relational database management system)

- ScummVM (cross-platform virtual machine for running classic video games)

- XOOPS (PHP/SQL Web content management system)
Last year’s best overall winner was Azureus, the popular, multi-featured, cross-platform BitTorent client. See all of last year’s winners here.
Vote early, but don’t vote often. As it says in the official rules, “multiple nominations for the same Awards winners, from the same submitter will be discarded.”
Both Linux.com and SourceForge.net are part of SourceForge, Inc. If you’re planning to be at OSCON, join us for the Community Choice Awards Party at the Jupiter Hotel July 26 from 6-9 p.m. The event is free, but space is limited, so reserve a ticket by June 29.
