Linux on laptops? Oh, my! (video)

San Francisco — Some of the heaviest PR lead-up to this year’s West Coast LinuxWorld Conference and Expo was about Linux on laptops, and specifically Novell’s SUSE Linux on Lenovo laptops. It seems that you will soon be able to buy SUSE Linux pre-loaded on Lenovo ThinkPad laptops, and that toll-free Linux phone support, from Lenovo, will be included. Not only that, but this is enterprise Linux, not just Linux for home use.

Could this be the start of a trend? We all know by now that Michael Dell runs Ubuntu on his personal laptop, and that you can now buy a Dell laptop preloaded with Ubuntu (if you root around hard enough on Dell’s Web site).

We found one LinuxWorld exhibitor who thinks both Dell and Lenovo are “late to the party.” But then, Lincoln Durey’s company, Emperor Linux, has been selling Linux laptops for eight years, so he has a right to say that — and even to smile a little snidely when he does.
