Migrating to LibreOffice may seem like an easy task, but it can be a major undertaking for businesses and organizations. Several elements stand in the way of an easy migration and The Document Foundation has released a white paper to assist. It covers topics such as pilot programs, neutralizing resistance, identifying early adopters, and training.
Titled “Migrating to LibreOffice to promote Software and Document Freedom,” this howto begins by suggesting the evaluation of macros, templates, and other third party applications for their relevance. After discarding those no longer needed, one can then plan a pilot program to avoid wide disruption and identify any problematic areas. The paper continues in detail what the objectives might be and how to accomplish them. Another suggestion is a “welcome package” with helpful information about LibreOffice and the Open Document Format.
