LINUXWORLD EXPO, SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 3, 2004 MySQL AB, developer of the world’s most popular open source database, and MontaVista Software, Inc. today announced that the two companies have extended their partnership to validate the MySQL® database on MontaVista® Linux® Carrier Grade Edition (CGE) for the telecommunications and Network Equipment Provider (NEP) markets. MontaVista Software and MySQL AB are also cooperating on marketing and sales for the MySQL database on MontaVista Linux CGE, as well as for MySQL on MontaVista Linux Professional Edition for the traditional embedded market.

MontaVista Software and MySQL will highlight MySQL on MontaVista Linux platforms at the LinuxWorld Conference & Expo, August 2-5 in San Francisco, in the MySQL booth #1259.

“We are raising our relationship with MontaVista to one of our highest partnership levels to meet the demand for database applications on embedded Linux,” said Bertrand Matthelié, director of alliances at MySQL AB. “MySQL is increasingly being used for embedded applications, in everything from network appliances to sales kiosks. As database functionality becomes a requirement for intelligent devices, MySQL on MontaVista Linux enables manufacturers to provide customers and service providers with maximum cost savings and flexibility.”

MontaVista Linux CGE is an industry-standard COTS (Commercial-Off-The-Shelf) carrier-grade Linux product that provides specific functionality for telecommunications and data communications with requirements for high availability, fault management, and real-time performance.

As a validated MySQL platform, MontaVista Linux has been tested and optimized by the engineers at MySQL AB and MontaVista Software to support the unique demands of MySQL-driven embedded applications for telecommunications companies and networking equipment providers. A growing number of leading telecommunications and networking companies, such as AdventNet, Alcatel, Aprisma, Atchik, Cox Communications, F5 Networks, Onlinetel, Siemens and Tekelec, now rely on MySQL for high performance, reliable data management.

MontaVista Linux support for MySQL also extends to MySQL Cluster, a version of the MySQL database that is designed specifically to address the uptime requirements of the telecommunications industry. MySQL Cluster combines the MySQL® database with a clustering architecture to deliver 99.999 percent availability to mission-critical database applications.

“The validation of MySQL with MontaVista Linux CGE will let mutual customers take advantage of our high performance, reliable and secure solutions for the demanding carrier-grade environment,” said Robert Monkman, senior product marketing manager, MontaVista. “Together, we offer network equipment providers a powerful new way to develop products on a standards-based, open architecture platform.”
