OSA members JasperSoft and Palamida to Host
San Francisco EventSAN FRANCISCO, August 20, 2007 – The Open Solutions Alliance (OSA), a nonprofit, vendor-neutral consortium dedicated to driving interoperability and adoption of comprehensive open solutions, today announced the second event in its worldwide Customer Forum Series. OSA members JasperSoft and Palamida will co-host the Forum, “Secure Your Code: Enterprise Best Security Practices for Open Source Use,†scheduled for August 23, 2007 from 8:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. in San Francisco at the Marriott Courtyard.

The release of the General Public License version 3 (GPLv3) has introduced new complexities to organizations using open source; business, legal and security risks are important considerations for any enterprise wanting to get the most from open source adoption. The San Francisco Customer Forum, the second in a series of educational events hosted by OSA members, will answer key questions regarding current licensing challenges, including the new issues raised by the release of the GPLv3 — such as forking and license incompatibility — and how these issues impact the interoperability among open source solutions.

“The OSA brings together business IT executives who have taken the lead within their companies and industries to consider open source software at the application layer. The OSA Customer Forums are a place where they can share their best practices and ask the hard questions,†said Barry Klawans, OSA board member and CTO at JasperSoft. “This particular event is timely and in high demand due to the recent release of the GPLv3. We’re pleased to be able to extend the dialogue within the community and facilitate further understanding of open solutions.â€Â

The OSA Customer Forum Series was created by the OSA to give open source professionals a unique opportunity to share and learn from others the key issues and best practices for the interoperability of open solutions. The OSA Customer Forum Series aims to provide a venue for these professionals to be heard by a variety of vendors, to learn more about the deployment of open solutions, and for the OSA to document requirements that can be actively pursued by the members and broader open source software community. The first Forum was held in Minneapolis on July 20, 2007 and hosted by OSA member The Open Source Technology Alliance (TOSTA).
