Slowly but surely, Piston Cloud has gained a reputation as a company strategizing around the OpenStack open cloud computing platform and how it can serve enterprises. And now, the company has announced that it has raised $8 million in Series B financing following a $4.5 million Series A round in July 2011.
Notably, Cisco–a high-profile OpenStack backer–has joined a group of investors committing the funds. “The investment will be used to fuel product development, meet the needs of Piston Cloud’s rapidly expanding customer base and further deliver on the company’s vision for mass adoption of OpenStack,” Piston Cloud officials announced.
Cisco Systems Inc., Data Collective and Swisscom Ventures join Divergent Ventures, Hummer Winblad and True Ventures as principal investors in the latest round of funding.
