Juggling open-source software stacks …
… isn’t fun. That’s why SpikeSource Inc. in June will ship a tested, validated and supported combination of free open-source tools such as MySQL, JBoss, Python and PHP. According to Nick Halsey, vice president of sales and marketing at the Redwood City, Calif.-based company, SpikeSource keeps track of the release and patch cycle for each of the technologies. It also tests changes to ensure that an update to one component doesn’t hamper something else. Halsey says the company will throw in an automated installer and management tools. It plans to charge $295 a year for the update service. The current beta of the SpikeSource stack runs on five versions of Linux and Windows.
