The Qt toolkit got a big update on Tuesday, with improved cross-platform compatibility. Qt 4.6 introduces official support for Nokia’s Linux-based Maemo platform and the Symbian S60 operating system.

Qt is an open-source framework for cross-platform C++ software development that was originally created by Trolltech in the early 90s. Nokia acquired the company last year and took steps to make the project more open and transparent. Nokia relicensed Qt under the more permissive Lesser General Public License (LGPL) and moved all active development to public source code repositories in an effort to encourage broader community participation in the development process.
