Toolbox for IT looks at the Linux Standard Base: “Even though the differences [between Linux distributions] are slight they can pose significant problems when a program is written to be run universally on all Linux distributions. On some the file layout may be slightly different. On other distributions there may be different, incompatible library versions. There may not even be required support programs in the distributions repository.”
