Comdex: Lots of prototype gizmos, but few ‘new and now’

CNN.com has a feature about new gadgets at Comdex: “A company named Agenda was
demonstrating its VR3 handheld computer, which that
runs on the open-standard Linux operating system.
At present there are only about 20 applications for the
organizer, a problem the company hopes to address
with its recent launch of a software develop’s edition
for $179. A market launch is expected by March.”

China blocks VeriSign from registering Net names

Bull and Penguin team up

“Bulls and penguins don’t play together very often. At Comdex this week, however, Groupe Bull SA and Penguin Computing Inc. did a Linux tango when the two companies announced a partnership to sell Linux systems in the European market.” IDG News reports.

Teamware Office 5.3 for Linux

In a press release at PRWeb, Teamware Group announced the availability of a 90-day evaluation version of Teamware Office 5.3 for Linux. Billed as a “ready-to-run groupware product with customizable interface and state-of-the-art communications,” the program is available on the Mandrake-Linux 7.2 CD-ROM and Teamware’s Web site.

Australia launches commercial IPv6 service

From a Computerworld report: “Uecomm Limited and Ericsson Australia have deployed the first commercial new-generation Internet standard network (Internet Protocol version 6 – IPv6) across Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. A spokesperson for Uecomm, Clare Laffan, said the network will be offered to all customers with an expected 750 companies on board by the end of 2001.”
