For the sake of security….odds and ends

I think that this is turning into a  habit.

Whenever,  I don”t  have anything to do,  I fool around with  the  OS.  I never really paid that much attention to   it.   After  all, it’s  just  something  that keeps  the   computer   running. But  this is different. There is so much that  I can do. I can find all   sorts of applications,  without searching for  hours on the  Internet. Used Skype with  webcam, all ok. Played  hangman. I’m not a game fanatic, but if  you ever get bored…

I like  the idea of  having to use a  password to  add or  remove software applilcations. With leads me to    the issue of security. My friend said  that the reason  that Linux is safer is that it isn’t so   popular, so those who develop viruses haven’t made   any for   it, yet…

So  is an antivirus necessary or isn’t it?  If so, which?  There is already a virus sweep application, that I use.  Most  antivirus software  is   not for linux, but… you  can use Wine to download one. There are   alot of  free  downloads,  but then they aren’t really free.  They have alot of adware, etc. And I have heard that the  very same people who develope antiviruses,  make the viruses.  It’s like a  pharmaceutical  company developing  a new virus, then coming up with a vaccine  that   you must have  in order not to get the  virus….(sound familiar.)  This was  on the  TV newsbroadcast  a few days ago,  so it must be serious. I have already had that happen twice, inspite of having an  antivirus program,   which is  why I switched to Linux. I  thought at first that it was only me,  but when a friend in Germany told me  she had the same problem, and that a friend of hers in Spain also had that problem, I knew that it was one of the many bugs going around. So,  to vaccinate or not?

The new  Ubuntu  is out! It looks good, and I’m  tempted  to try it. It supposededly is easier, that is relevant. Well, my husband can’t understand why someone would do something  like this for free.

So much for my rambling…
